LO PAK KO ('Chinese Turnip' Cake)


Lo Pak Ko

3½ kg turnip
Grate and cook turnip in a pot without any water. Add flour and mix well. Add a dash of soya sauce and 1 tsp. of sugar to the minced pork.
Heat a generous amount of oil in a separate pan and fry the garlic, Chinese sausage, dried shrimp and minced pork. Add the fried ingredients and the oil to the turnip mixture. Season with pepper and chicken stock powder, and mix well.
Oil a tin container, pour the mixture in and steam it for 1 hour.
Serve the lo pak ko steamed or cut into slices and fried. Garnish with a sprinkling of sesame seeds and sliced chung.
500 g rice flour
500 g mince pork
Chopped garlic
5 Chinese sausages, finely diced
100g dried shrimp
Soya sauce
2 tsp. sugar
Chicken stock powder
Pepper
Sesame seeds
Chung (spring onion)

MYSY’s contribution, Mum’s turnip cake which she makes during Chinese New Year.



Ingredients:
Spring onion, chopped
600g              Turnip (about 3 large turnips), grated
500g              Rice flour
Few cloves of Garlic, chopped
Chinese sausage, diced finely
Dried Shrimp
Sesame oil
Salt and Pepper








Directions:
1        Heat grated turnip in a pot until water has evaporated.

2        Fry the garlic, sausage and shrimp. Add to turnip. 
3        Add flour, sesame oil, salt and pepper and mix.
4        Pour into cake tin container and steam for 1 hour.


5        Serve it steamed, or cut into slices and fry.
