Easter 2014 - Chocolate Filled Real Egg Shells

This year Mum had an idea to fill real eggs shells with chocolate.
So on a Friday she emptied the eggs, and boiled the hollow shells for a few minutes to sterilize them. The she set up food dye and crayons below.
Rf.me actually got all colored with dye but there wasn't a clear photo to show. Both boys had a lot of fun expressing their creative side. A few eggs got cracked or chipped but in general they were surprising careful.
After that we went to the dinosaur exhibit with my sister mysy in the Perth Museum and it was really good although pricey (luckily Pa paid).

The next Saturday when the dye had time to dry, it was time to fill with chocolate! 12 eggs takes a lot more chocolate than you would imagine, but I suppose it makes sense when you feel how heavy a real egg actually is in hand. After melting masses of chocolates, we kind of stopped at 6 eggs. That's enough.

The next week on Easter lunch, we got to test Mum's invention. We had fun tapping the shell with a spoon to crack it (the chocolate being hard, doesn't allow the shell to collapse in like a normal egg.)

The one thing we would change next year is to fill it with a softer chocolates as these were solid, like that of a bar, but because its so big its hard to bite or finish in one sitting.
Perhaps a soft chocolate or a mousse?
Fear not they were not let go to waste, we make wonderful brownies with the re-melted eggs! More of that in another post.
